5 reasons why you need to have a public Instagram account!
I’ve had a public Instagram account for over 4.5 years, I do not have a lot of followers and I am not an influencer. But here are 5 reasons why I still think it was the best decision I’ve ever made:
One, it’s such a low effort way to build a public image for yourself. Even by scarcely posting about what you’re interested in, and what you have achieved or what you want to achieve, you actively share with more and more people an image of yourself you want them to have. They’re gonna know what you’re interested in, and what I’m good at without you have to market it or tell them.
There are so many better writers out there than me but there’s so many opportunities I’ve gotten that they haven’t just because my profile explicitly mentions that I write. It shows my openness to new ideas and my readiness to connect.
Two, it’s an amazing way to have a good first impression. Even if you do not post often, if you just have a decent bio, a decent number of posts talking about who you are as a person, and a decent profile picture, any and everyone coming up to your profile is gonna think- yeah, this person got something cool going on (even if you’re just lazily laying in your bed all day procrastinating).
Three, it’s such a simple way to build confidence and challenge your insecurities every day. Trust me when I say this, it is NOT EASY to put yourself out there for any and everyone to judge at any moment they like and to let them go through your life at one click. But, on the other side, it is so liberating and so mentally and emotionally rewarding that I would still do it every single time I can. When you start posting more often, you eventually stop caring what people has to say about your latest one. You start looking at the bigger picture. And when you post something you’re not sure of, you learn how to deal with the anxiety of being out there. And trust me when I say it, that this my friend is a LIFE SKILL.
Four, you get to network like crazy. More often than not, people do not end up replying to message requests from a private account with no profile picture or definitive bio. Just by having a decent pu
blic profile, even if not a good count of followers, you send an impression to everyone out there that – It’s okay! I’m not a robot, and there’s a high chance I won’t hack your profile if you reply to my text. Somewhere, it also gives the other person an idea of what kind of person you may be, and what you’ve done so far, which more often than not makes them interested to know more about you. And sometimes, you don’t even have to be the one to start a conversation. So many people could just connect with what you posted and drop a message themselves.
Five, it helps you be more self-aware and informed. When I’m posting on Instagram, it helps me realise what I care about enough to share with people and therefore, what I’m interested in and inclined towards. It also shows me how happy some things make me more than others. This could be very personal to you but it keeps you connected with the little things in your life. And if you have a hobby you like to share about, it helps you stay connected with that hobby just by making you want to post about it more.
If you’re somebody who likes to stay away from social media, that’s wonderful. But if you like to spend at least some part of your day scrolling, you might as well find a way to make it useful.
Until next time,
